Soho Yard Tree Grills project with Steve Roche

Soho Yard is on the site of former confectionery makers from the Victorian era. Steve found and curated phrases from old advertising which you can see here:

I was tasked with creating some tree grills which were inspired by 'Yorkshire Mix' sweets, a classic assortment of traditional, hard-boiled sweets, featuring various fruit, mint, and aniseed flavours like pear drops, butter drops, humbugs, and raspberry, often sold unwrapped in bulk bags or jars, originating from factory leftovers in the industrial era.

The grills were produced by Steel Line in Sheffield and left outside to be coloured by the elements.

If you look closely you might be able to find the occasional fish, just as you do in the original sweet mix!
